A focus on improvement
Four months into the role, our Operations Director Richard Taylor is already making good progress in identifying opportunities for improvement across key operational areas including health and safety, transport and continuous improvement.
Richard joined PSG in July with extensive experience leading large-scale logistics and supply chain operations, most recently overseeing a 550,000 sq ft main depot and a network of 25 satellite depots across the UK and Ireland.
A vital appointment in our continued growth strategy, he leads our end-to-end operations, from procurement to delivery, with responsibility for implementing scalable systems, mentoring our teams, and helping shape our strategic direction.
Identifying opportunities
Richard said: “My priority in the first few months has been to get under the skin of our operation and develop a better understanding of the fundamentals that we have in place. This meant spending time on the ground, observing workflows, engaging with the team, and identifying areas where we could make some initial improvements.
“In health and safety, we’ve reviewed key hazards and implemented tighter controls to ensure a safer working environment. Across transport, we recognised that we needed to improve our options and have already expanded our options for customers. Elsewhere, we’ve also mapped out workflows and identified opportunities to streamline operations without compromising safety or quality. This process will be ongoing as we proactively engage our teams for ideas and feedback.”
Next steps in operational excellence
Our overall goal is to build a high-performing, future-ready function that’s aligned with PSG’s strategic ambitions. Next we will focus on areas including training and development, process tools and frameworks, capacity planning and procurement, as we continue to look for ways to improve operations.
Richard adds: “I’ve been inspired by the passion and pride across the business. It’s clear that our people care deeply about doing things right. I’m looking forward to developing on that ethos to help drive efficiencies and improvements going forward.”
